New Community Public Access Television in Pembroke

Pembroke, Massachusetts, August 9, 2012 – After much conflict throughout the town of Pembroke over Pembroke Public Access Television, Pembroke Media Broadcasting (PMB) closed in Pembroke.  Because of this two town residents, Dr. Margaret Jones and Mr. John Mattinson, have started a new non-profit company called Pembroke Community Media Center, Inc.  Both are working on this studio being the new center for the community to use for their public access television.

In May and June of this year Pembroke residents had several meetings concerning the PMB closing.  Opponents of the closure said the board of directors – who voted to dissolve PMB in a private meeting May 31 – had no right to make the decision without the public’s consent.  Residents were upset with the Board of Selectman not intervening with the PMB when they voted to close the cable studio and give away all of the equipment.  Although there were many citizens against the regionalization of Pembroke Public Access both the PMB and the Board of Selectmen for Pembroke followed through with the elimination of Pembroke Local Public Access.

So now that Pembroke Media Broadcast (PMB) no longer exists, Mr. Mattinson who is a former employee of the PMB and Dr. Jones who was an avid volunteer at the studio have created this new corporation: Pembroke Community Media Center, Inc.  Mr. Mattinson and Dr Jones have obtained camera equipment, have producers lined up for public access shows and have already started lining up shoots for the future.  They are also planning on offering free class time for the public, and have started setting up the schedule.  More information about this can be found at: www.yourpcmc.com or by calling Dr. Jones at her office at 781-826-8339.

To fund the new non-profit studio, PCMC is hoping to acquire the monies through public and private grants and donations.  Pembroke Community Media Center Inc., is registered with the Attorney General’s Division of non-profit organizations/public charities.  PCMC’s non-profit number is 053923.  Money can be sent to Bridgewater Savings and earmarked for PCMC’s account.
