A Short and Sweet PCMS Winter Choral Concert

It doesn't get much sweeter than Chelsea Smith's vocal solo opening in “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the third song presented by the 7th Grade chorus on the evening of December 6th in the Pembroke High School Auditorium.

Other voice soloists of the night were Emily Furtney, Sarah Burton, Kaeleigh Ahern, Julia Blomberg, and Matt Bianco; with Emily singing alone in both “Some Nights” with the “After-School Select Chorus,” and “I Look to You,” a Whitney Houston song presented last by the 8th Grade Chorus.

“We have good leaders in this group,” Mr Shepherd tells the audience of parents, relatives, and friends, “helping to teach students who are new.  And of course we have a lot of new people in chorus this year. We have 53 people in 8th Grade Chorus alone, which is awesome.”

These young 13 and 14-year-old performers entertained a packed crowd, with latecomers relegated to standing in the back where our student volunteer was filming.

Well-loved Director Alexander Shepherd plays piano accompaniment for many of the songs,  A curious thing, though, is that when the back of his head faces us, the students start laughing.  Could it be that Mr. Shepherd, the ultimate morale booster,  is making funny faces at them? You decide.
