Pembroke Community Media Center has a Half-Hour Church Service for You

"Even more important than monetary contributions, is the time and caring that we give to one another," announces a parishioner during "The Deacon Moment."

This half-hour service is chock full of such thoughtful moments. Beginning with shoes and boots donated to comfort the feet of Boston's needy, Pastor Giragosian assisting a young girl lighting the candle on the altar, and a mother cradling her restless child; not a moment passes that we don't view some example of caring within the congregation itself.

It's the annual event, "Barefoot Sunday," at the First Church in Pembroke, Massachusetts.  Uncharacteristically gracing the alter is a substantial and colorful pile of new footwear destined to shod the feet of the city's less fortunate.
The sermon is an entertaining litany of the funny things people do while waiting for an elevator car to arrive or a traffic light to change.  Pastor Giragosian uses those comical situations to ask what people do and can do while waiting for God.  The answer isn't much of a surprise, so I'll just tell you.  It's “look busy and be busy” caring and helping others.

WHAT? YOU MISSED CHURCH TODAY?

Never fear. The First Congregational Church service is here.

Filmed Sunday, November 18th, this presentation shows parishioners welcomed to the fold in a "Rite of New Member Reception" ceremony starting 10 minutes into the video. Promises, handshakes, and bouquets of red roses were shared.

"Today we rejoice in your pilgrimage of faith," Pastor Giragosian says, "which has brought you to this time and to this place. So we do give thanks for community."

The entire congregation offers in unison, "We promise you our friendship and prayers."

Now the new members have lots of new friends.

One woman expressed afterwards that the roses were so beautiful; she planned to keep them a long time as dried flowers.

Cute Furry Pets are Blessed at the First Church in Pembroke

Pets are blessed at the 300-year-old First Church in Pembroke, Massachusetts by Pastor Rick Giragosian who says "may you and the people who love you enjoy life together, and may you always find joy in the God who created you,  Amen."

The ceremonies start on Sunday, October 21st in the church parking lot with readings and a prayer from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "How much richer our lives are because of these furry friends," a young man says.  "We thank you for giving us pets which give us joy," says a young woman.

Meet Zaxu the cat, Chance the dog, and even Salt who is a rodent small enough to fit in his boy's hand. Pembroke Community Media Center volunteers filmed the event so you can see each pet get individually blessed.  As people and animals prepare to leave, Pastor Rick distributes brightly wrapped dog and cat treats made the week before by the congregation's children.
