The
Whitman-Hanson-Pembroke(WHP) February Senior Day girls' hockey game against
Norwell at Rockland Ice Arena is up and running at pembrokecommunitymedia. It was filmed by volunteer Deanna Hatch,
whose daughter Mel, #1, plays keeper.
And
what a game that was.
WHP
made 3 of its 4 game goals in the action-packed 1st period, with #14
Whitman-Hanson Freshman Abby Majenski making one and assisting in the other
2. Great work, Gabby.
Norwell's
#14 Caroline Nichols also scored during that 1st period assisted by teammate
Teri Dinger.
“I
like to film the girls congregating and having fun before the game,” Hatch
related. “Senior Day was special for me and my daughter Mel who is a senior. It
was one of the last few home games that I taped. Mel plays goalie. It was an
honor and privilege to be sharing in that special day for the girls.” Hatch went on to say, “I have so many nice things
to say, that I'm overwhelmed.”
With
instant and slow motion replays and freeze frames of key plays, watching this
video is even better than being at the event itself.

Wm Flynn coaches varsity girls'
Whitman/Hanson/Pembroke (WHP) hockey, and uses game videos shot by Deanna Hatch, Sports Director for Pembroke
Community Media Center, as a training tool.
Saturday
night's Jan 26th WHP vs. Falmouth Clippers game was especially momentous for
the team, since Falmouth ranked first in the Southeastern MA Girls Hockey
League South Division I.
“I
was so proud of all the girls efforts,” Coach Flynn said, referring to WHP's
performance that night. “They played as
a team, and it showed.”
Flynn
continued, “Had they played this way against Marshfield, the outcome would have been different.” He was talking about three days earlier when
at 5 pm on January 23rd, WHP lost to Marshfield by only one point at the
Bridgewater Ice Arena(BIA).
“Thanks
to Deanna for game films,” Flynn said. “They let us better prepare in advance
for upcoming games.”
Hatch's
daughter, Mel, keeper for the team,
offered her thoughts on the Falmouth game which evenly finished at 2-2, had 6
penalties for each faction, and one 3rd period goal for each team. “The girls looked really well and they pulled
together when we needed it most. It felt good to give Falmouth their first
tie.”
Deanna
Hatch likewise was especially enamored by the team, and afterwards exclaimed
“Oh my gosh. It was an amazing
game. I've never been so proud of those
girls.” Hatch went on to call the
Falmouth Ice Rink event “a true nail-biter.
I am so glad to have the game on film, because that's something you just
can't get back once it's over.”
The
Falmouth game also was a critical landmark for player Jane Morrisette who made
both a 2nd period assist and a 3rd period goal, earning her 100th and 101st
high school hockey career points.
“I
feel excited,” Morrisette said. “I think as a junior it was a great
accomplishment, and I hope to keep racking up the points.”
Morrisette plans to play both field hockey and
ice hockey again her senior 2013-14 year.
WHPs
next game is at 1:50 pm tomorrow, Feb 9th against Norwell at the Bridgewater
Ice Arena(BIA).

“One,
two, three, W, H, P!” is the cheer the Whitman/Hanson/Pembroke girls' varsity
high school hockey team shouts prior to the start of play for their games which
this year all are being filmed by Pembroke Community Media Center volunteer,
Deanna Hatch, using professional-grade cameras and tripods.
The
resultant edited videos start and end with original “Welcome to the Show” music
by Kevin MacLeod, have graphics identifying key plays and penalties, and keep
viewers in step with the action.
According
to Deanna, “We put a lot of time into recording and editing each game and
getting the DVD's to Coach, and everybody appreciates that. Other parents may not realize how much time
goes into each video, but they know it's a lot of work.”
Deanna's daughter, Mel, is one of two keepers
for WHP which claims the Bridgewater Ice Arena(BIA) as its home rink. William Flynn is head coach. WHP is in the
Southeastern MA girls' Hockey League south Division I, and has the motto: “Three Towns + Two Schools = One Team.” The
three towns are Whitman, Hanson, and Pembroke; and the two schools are
Whitman/Hanson and Pembroke High School.
Dan Mastrogiacomo, Dana Battista, and Adelia
DeSisto are assistant coaches this
2012-2013 season which spans from the beginning of last month, December 8th,
to February 20th's final game against Mansfield which will be played at 3:30 pm
at Hobomock instead of BIA.
There are still 14 games in this
23-game-season between now and then, starting tomorrow at 6pm with WHP meeting
the Barnstable Red Raiders at Kennedy Memorial Skating Rink, 141 Basset Lane,
Hyannis.
If
you're wondering how Deanna is able to travel to each and every game, join the
club. She's been heard saying “I can
never get enough of this,” referring to girl's hockey games. Perhaps that is motivation enough for the
tireless hours of driving, filming, and fund raising she does for WHP, and did
for Titans Girls' Field Hockey September through November.
“Deanna
is great and has always been great,” said Ann Ryerson, program director for
Pembroke Community Media Center's web-based media company, referring to Ms.
Hatch's devoted coverage of girls' field hockey and hockey. “Even with a family
and full-time job, she keeps going. I applaud her 'wonderfulness.'”

The
season's December 8th opener against Hanover/Cohasset started with a goal by
Ali Webster who was assisted by Jackie Sullivan and Jane Morrisette. WHP's Giana DeAcetis scored next, assisted by
both Jane Morrisette and Ali Webster.
There
was serious action, as evidenced by seven penalties being called: four for WHP
and 3 for Hanover-Cohasset.

What do you get when you mix Deanna Hatch and a camera?
Coverage of ALL the field hockey games! But you already knew that, right?
Yes. Go to www.yourpcmc.com to see an athletic bonanza of
girls' matches dating from September 4th until the last September 25th

At the recent Awards Dinner, Coach Wm Flynn proudly announced that “We're the
only sport that has had all of our games covered.” He went on to thank Deanna
Hatch, Dr.Jones, and Pembroke Community Media Center
“for all they have done.”
Each video starts with energetic welcome-to-the-show music by Kevin
MacLeod.
Who made the goal and who assisted are labeled with graphics for the Titans and
often for opposing teams also. Similar graphics describe relevant
information in much the same way that sportscasters narrate professional games.
“I ask the coaches their players' names, and get all the information just as a
paid reporter would,” Deanna says. “Coaches from other teams want copies
of what I film too.”
Through Pembroke Community Media Center's
Partnering Program, Brockton and Stoughton Public Access television channels
also are airing these shows to thousands of comcast and Verizon cable
subscribers.
You too can get DVDs of these games and events from Deanna or from Pembroke Community Media

Pembroke, MA - Pembroke High School Girls’ Field Hockey played their third game of the season against Stoughton High School on September 8th, 2012. Pembroke Community Media Center, Inc. (PCMC) volunteer Deanna Hatch was there again to catch the game’s excitement.

PCMC, Inc. regularly shares programming with local PEG access TV stations, like Brockton's Community Access station, BCA, which will be

“Once I knew what an exciting game it was,” said a Pembroke volunteer, “I wanted to get it edited and out to the public right away. The whole thing was done by Wednesday night.”
Jay Miller at BCA said he was glad to be getting programming from PCMC, since they in Brockton were unable to attend the Pembroke/Brockton game. BCA channels reach over 94,000 households.
Ms. Hatch likewise was happy to be instrumental in providing programming to such a big audience.
Deanna said, “They must have seen me filming at the game, and wanted to see it on TV.”
