Watch the Pembroke High School Thanksgiving Game Here

Thank D J Mattinson for same-day football viewing

The Mattinson family of Pembroke has taken pride in getting Thanksgiving high school football games ready for immediate public viewing ever since the Pembroke/Silver Lake rivalry began. This holiday it was Pembroke Media volunteer D. J. Mattinson who accomplished the nearly impossible “same-day” feat that his dad, professional media entrepreneur John Mattinson, pulled off other years.

D. J. filmed the entire game and half-time show from the top stands at the 50-yard line, braving freezing wind and cold to capture all the festivities on tape with his professional-grade camera. He then rushed home where the quality footage was uploaded, edited, and burned to disc Thanksgiving Day afternoon.

Same-day viewing is far different from live feeds needing no editing. The refining process which removes, adjusts, adds, and removes pictures and sound can take days. The job of placing graphics, introductions, endings, and credits can continue for days, weeks, and months more.

D. J.'s remarkable, same-day, polished production can be seen at pembrokecommunitymedia.com in the sports section.

“I was recording for the coaches while D J was catching the action for all the rest of us,” the elder Mattinson said. “I look forward to being here every year, but it was damn cold. Players and fans were fighting the elements, and D J said he saw some parents shaking.”

The traditional Thanksgiving Pembroke Titans vs Silver Lake Lakers football game started 10 am with Titans first winning the toss, and finished with a 21-17 Titans win.

Senior Day Ceremony - Pembroke High School Girls Field Hockey

It's Senior Day for the 2012 Pembroke Titans Girls Field Hockey Team!  Pembroke Community Media Center was there to capture the event.  The ceremony was held on the field behind Pembroke High School on October 23rd, honoring the Seniors before playing their season's last home game.

Soumya Karra, Nikki Hoefer, Kim Leonard, Kristin Sherman, Erin Haley, Erin Johnson, Melissa Hatch, Sarah Scully, and Maura O'Brien each pass under a canopy of raised hockey sticks before stopping to be photographed.   A short speech was read by a teammate saying how much the senior is liked and will be missed.

Coach Jen Halloran who played JV then captained varsity field hockey during her four years at Pembroke High School, says “Good Luck. Have Fun. Enjoy whatever you do in life.  I wish you all success.”

“It's a very emotional day for the girls,” the announcer ads, “so let's recognize each girl and show them how much we love them.”

Singing “The Star Spangled Banner” is the duo of Colleen Burns and Kayla Kenney, proudly wearing their “Everybody Loves Romeo” cast t-shirts.  These busy girls took time away from play rehearsal to sing at the event.

At the end of the video are lovely still shots of the girls put to music.  CLICK HERE to see the video

PEMBROKE COMMUNITY MEDIA CENTER FILMS “EVERYBODY LOVES ROMEO”

What do you get when you combine a Shakespearean troupe with a hometown media center? You guessed it. A great Romeo and Juliet video!

Pembroke Community Media Center student and parent volunteers filmed the Thespian Group 7127 premier presentation of "Everybody Loves Romeo" at Pembroke High School Friday night, October 26th.

Copies were ready for sale at the door the next night.

When asked how Pembroke Community Media Center was able to get "Everybody Loves Romeo" DVDs done so quickly, representative Margaret Jones said "We had high school students in the play and others who had friends in the show who wanted to help out to just get it done."

Jones added, "It seemed like a good idea to have the actual finished DVDs for sale, rather than just order forms like in previous years.  The volunteers were motivated and had a lot of fun."

The high school students who helped earned community service credit hours required for graduation.

PAPA Secretary Michelle Fay was excited about having discs to sell so soon.  “Can't wait to get my copy!” said Fay.

“We want to make sure The Performing Arts Parents' Association (PAPA) gets money,” Jones explained.  “Most people buying DVDs have children in the shows we film, and it's really important for them to know that what they pay for a DVD is helping PAPA's fund raising efforts.”

Twenty five percent of proceeds goes directly to PAPA for senior scholarships, private lessons, music camps, instrument purchases, provide transportation, and a lot more.

Pembroke Community Media Center, Inc. was formed by Pembroke residents in June 2012 just before Pembroke's public access television station closed.   Shows formerly available on channels 13, 14, and 15 now can be seen at yourpcmc.com.

Private donations are Pembroke Community Media Center's only funding source.

Pembroke High School Jr. Varsity Volleyball is Back!

The Pembroke Titans Girls' JV Volleyball team met the North Quincy Red Raiders in a best of 3 game set on Friday, October 19th, and Pembroke Community Media Center volunteers were there to film the action.

Pembroke’s 14-girl JV Titans team doesn't disappoint. They have speed and fortitude.

In the first set against the Junior Varsity team from North Quincy, the competiveness between the girls keeps the scores close through the beginning and middle of the game.  For Pembroke, Rachel Fletcher, Erin Wyngren and Maddy Mazola posted quite a few digs against North Quincy with Jenny Murphy and Venessa Depetro assisting, but North Quincy out hit Pembroke in the last few minutes of the game with a 4 point spread.

In the second game North Quincy came out strong, leading from end to end, winning with a 10 point lead making for a 2 game set.

STUDENTS EARN COMMUNITY SERVICE CREDIT HOURS DURING PAUL CRIMI'S PAINTING SHOW

While Famed Fine Artist Paul Crimi was creating a painting in one hour, the high school students working crew were earning community service credit hours towards graduation.  "These guys are great," Mr. Crimi says about his helpers. "Absolutely Great."

Paul begins by showing and telling us about a finished painting called "Flowers on the Sidewalk"  which "has nice depth to it.....and really soft flower colors."  The brickwork is spectacular.

"The Beach House" painting was made from a photograph taken in Sprucehead, Maine. A field of flowers was added.

An indoor scene of a "really funky house with real quiet rooms," the Olson House, is the subject of the next finished painting.

For the body of this tutorial, Paul sketches a fall landscape from a photograph of the North River on the Hanover/Hanson line by Myette's store. Starting on a medium-size black canvass "helps the colors."  First comes the blue sky, then the black lines.  "I feel like the guy with the magic brush," Paul says.

Pembroke Community Media Center is proud to offer you this show, and happy that high school students are earning their community service credit hours while learning skills this fun and empowering way. There are plenty of good filming and editing opportunities, so contact us today.

Pembroke High School Homecoming Game

October 14, 2012, Pembroke, MA ~ Catch the action when the Pembroke High School Titans Football team meets the 3rd-ranked Duxbury Dragons as part of Pembroke's homecoming celebration.  Forgo the $5 admission price, get an unobstructed view from the stands, be energized by the marching band's crisp and lively songs, and hear the announcer loud and clear on this video recording aptly made by one of Pembroke Community Media Center's teenage volunteers.
We begin with a fan twice expressing his desire for the teams to "start playing here," and end the two hours of action with Pembroke taking the ball with 39 seconds left, then .............

The sunny, clear and mild weather was ideal for both the game and the preceding 11am parking lot tailgate party. A homecoming dance restricted to PHS students  held from 7-10 pm in the school Cafe rounded off the day's festivities.

Click here to watch the game.
