“The field hockey season is one of the fastest, and comes to
an end too soon,” declared Coach William Flynn at the Awards Dinner held in the
Pembroke High School cafeteria the evening of November 5th.
A heartfelt round of applause followed Flynn's opening
remarks. He thanked “the seniors and the hard work they've put in with bringing
all the young girls along and making this a nice fall sport for everybody to
have some fun and enjoy themselves. Seniors, on that note, thank you very much for
the last four years.”
Players from all three divisions, Freshmen, Junior Varsity,
and Varsity, came with their parents to enjoy the potluck buffet dinner, accept
awards in the form of clothing and backpacks, and socialize with friends and
seniors who would be graduating in 2013.
Jen Halloran, first-time coach for this year's freshmen, was
herself a senior last year. Way to go
Jen!
Coach Flynn encouraged everyone to ask more and more
students to try-out for field hockey teams “We want Coach Halloran to keep her
job,” he adds.
“Keep working. Keep working,” Flynn encourages at the
evening's close. “The program has become a lot more competitive over the past 3
or 4 years. We're almost there. We're that close. We should contend for a
tournament. So that's got to light a
fire under some of the JV girls and some of the varsity girls coming back.”
