the sanctuary protected by a thin sheet of glass.
Be a part of this December 24th, 2012, 300th
Anniversary Christmas Eve celebration, and see how pretty it looks in the dark
with only candles burning while people sing “Silent Night.”
“This is my favorite time of the year,” current pastor
Richard Giragosian says to his congregation, “not just because it's Christmas,
but because all our young adults are back from college and other places, and
leading us in this service. They lead us by reading the Scriptures and lighting
the candles up on the alter that you see, lighting our Christ candle as well.”

It was the first time on stage for some Pembroke Community
Middle School musicians on December 4th at this season's initial
winter concert in the high school auditorium.
One female performer who saw the camera before the show told us that she
just loves watching footage of herself on-stage.
And who doesn't?
This video was filmed by PHS freshman Ethan McCue who
himself played saxophone in the same concert last year.
First up is Director Thomas Hovey's Jazz Band playing “A
Darker Shade of Gray,” followed by the old Blood, Sweat, and Tears classic,
“Spinning Wheel.” Next the 7th Grade Concert Band pounded out an
all-time bull-fighting favorite, “Espana Cani.”
You'll recognize the tune, if not the name, when you hear it.
Theresa Fritz and Alex Shepherd also directed their groups
of Celtic Music Club, Orchestra, and 8th Grade Concert Band.
Full length versions are available from Pembroke Association
for Performing Arts (PAPA), or by calling 781-910-8899. This version will NOT be on TV, is the only
one filmed by Pembroke students, and is adjusted so the sound is clearer than at the concert itself.
Bryantville Elementary students traveled to Pembroke High
School's auditorium on December 18th for their annual winter concert. CLICK HERE for a 54-second clip that's well worth the “click.”
Our favorite part is the chorus's “Light a Little Candle”
which moves, moves, moves as children bounce to the quick, haunting rhythm.
“Blast away the trouble that keeps us apart. Light a little flame burning
bright in your heart.”
Pembroke Community Media Center's full-length, edited
version is the only version filmed by students, will NOT be on TV, and is
available on DVD through Pembroke Association for the Performing Arts(PAPA).or phoning
781-910-8899. Sound was adjusted
for better sound than at the concert itself, and the colors are crisp and
clear.
Pembroke Community
Media Center boldly asked Pastor Richard Giragosian of The First Church in
Pembroke the question to which we all want an answer, but are too sheepish to
ask: Will there be enough time Christmas Eve to celebrate at the 1st
Church and still be asleep before Santa comes?
Pastor Rick's answer
is a resounding “Yes!” Whew. That's a relief.
CLICK HEREto see your personal invitation to celebrate the Christmas
holiday. This video is only 53 seconds long, and in Pastor's own joking
words, “so terrific that, heck, I might even go!”
Listen to the soothing background music of “Oh come, oh come Emmanuel,” and
remember that this church is inviting you to “Congregate” with others,
regardless of your beliefs.
People are meeting-up
at the prearranged celebration times of 7:30 and 10pm on Monday, December
24th. So beautiful. See you there!

Again, these shows will NOT be on TV, and that's intentional because we at Pembroke Community Media Center want to raise money for the performing arts programs in Pembroke schools.
Many of our volunteers are involved in these music and theater programs either directly as students, parents, or teachers; or indirectly as members of the community. We live here.
I myself have three children who play instruments and sing at school, and want to keep the performing arts ball rolling forward.
You can phone me personally at 781-910-8899, and I will make sure you get your DVD without delay. The only time I won't answer the phone is 9:30 -11:30 am Sunday, and 7pm -9pm Monday when The 1st Church is holding services.
Thank you; remember to be nice to each other and Happy Holidays.
On Monday December 17th, North Pembroke Elementary
School 2nd Graders gave a winter concert on the converted cafeteria
stage before an audience packed with parents, relatives, and friends. Each
class stood and waved before the concert began; followed by singing, jumping,
bell-ringing, stick tapping, and poem reading.
“The Snowball Poem” recited by Parker Hackett, answers our title's question,
since a pet snowball accompanies a child to bed and afterwards melts to “wet
the bed.” ‘Certainly a sad way to lose a pal.’
And did you know that “One day Santa Claus did a most peculiar thing? He
enrolled in music class so he could learn to sing” It's true. The
entire second grade entourage of cute brightly dressed cherubs blasted out that
information quite loudly and clearly in their first song.
A Kwanzaa poem read by Nicholas Delcore says that to “know ourselves and
understand, determination takes a hand.” A Hanukkah Rainbow Poem” read by
Gia Sohmer, talks about “scarlet, purple, green, white, blue, pink and
yellow...orange too.”
The sound has been adjusted so you can hear better on the video than at the concert
itself. CLICK HERE to see a
video teaser of the event.

It
doesn't get much sweeter than Chelsea Smith's vocal solo opening in “All I Want
for Christmas Is You,” the third song presented by the 7th Grade
chorus on the evening of December 6th in the Pembroke High School
Auditorium.
Other
voice soloists of the night were Emily Furtney, Sarah Burton, Kaeleigh Ahern,
Julia Blomberg, and Matt Bianco; with Emily singing alone in both “Some Nights”
with the “After-School Select Chorus,” and “I Look to You,” a Whitney Houston
song presented last by the 8th Grade Chorus.
“We
have good leaders in this group,” Mr Shepherd tells the audience of parents,
relatives, and friends, “helping to teach students who are new. And of course we have a lot of new people in
chorus this year. We have 53 people in 8th Grade Chorus alone, which
is awesome.”
These
young 13 and 14-year-old performers entertained a packed crowd, with latecomers
relegated to standing in the back where our student volunteer was filming.
Well-loved
Director Alexander Shepherd plays piano accompaniment for many of the
songs, A curious thing, though, is that
when the back of his head faces us, the students start laughing. Could it be that Mr. Shepherd, the ultimate
morale booster, is making funny faces at
them? You decide.

The Pembroke 300th Committee held a
congratulatory closing event December 15th at the Pembroke,
Massachusetts County club thanking themselves and others for contributing to
the planning and execution of events commemorating the 300th
anniversary of the Town's incorporation in 1712. Pembroke Community Media Center had multiple
camera persons present to assure complete coverage.
Senate President Therese Murray presented the Committee with
an award signed by herself twice, once in the capacity of senator representing
Pembroke, and once as Senate President.
She thanked all for the resultant
fun their hard work provided.
Montillios Bakery provided a wonderfully large, tasty, and
artistic cake that night, just as they did a year ago for the opening event at
the same location.
Library Director and photographer Deborah Wall gifted one of
her own spectacular works, identical to that hanging in her office, to the 300th
committee chairman who had been admiring and coveting it over the course of
this 2012 year.
Kyle Harney presented what he called a “One Of,” standing
for a “one-of-a kind,” uniquely special encapsulation book filled with 300th
Anniversary information, photos, etc. that he meticulously compiled over the
past 12 months and longer.
Rick Madden is featured for his perseverance and dedication
in his quest to plant trees as replacements for those lost in town over the
past 300 years. Taller trees cut down
and used as ship masts have yet to grow to those previous heights, and Rick is
out to right that wrong.
Many more awards were given and received.
Ending the evening's riot of accolades are 17 slides
transferred from laptop to projection screen listing people and businesses who
gave money to the 300th Committee, with Committee Chairman Bill
Boulter's profile on the left.

The
season's December 8th opener against Hanover/Cohasset started with a goal by
Ali Webster who was assisted by Jackie Sullivan and Jane Morrisette. WHP's Giana DeAcetis scored next, assisted by
both Jane Morrisette and Ali Webster.
There
was serious action, as evidenced by seven penalties being called: four for WHP
and 3 for Hanover-Cohasset.
More
points were scored, but we don't want to ruin things for you if you don't yet
know which team won. CONTACT US for

"Even
more important than monetary contributions, is the time and caring that we give
to one another," announces a parishioner during "The Deacon
Moment."
This
half-hour service is chock full of such thoughtful moments. Beginning with
shoes and boots donated to comfort the feet of Boston's needy, Pastor
Giragosian assisting a young girl lighting the candle on the altar, and a
mother cradling her restless child; not a moment passes that we don't view some
example of caring within the congregation itself.
It's
the annual event, "Barefoot Sunday," at the First Church in Pembroke,
Massachusetts. Uncharacteristically
gracing the alter is a substantial and colorful pile of new footwear destined
to shod the feet of the city's less fortunate.
The
sermon is an entertaining litany of the funny things people do while waiting
for an elevator car to arrive or a traffic light to change. Pastor Giragosian uses those comical
situations to ask what people do and can do while waiting for God. The answer isn't much of a surprise, so I'll
just tell you. It's “look busy and be
busy” caring and helping others.

Sarah
Jane Briggette returned to Pembroke during a college holiday break to Alma
Mater Pembroke High School to film the same show in which she herself performed
as a senior Concert Choir member just one year ago.
The
result of Sarah's camerawoman debut is a bright and crisp video of Pembroke
High School's Winter Concert I from December 11, 2012 in the Randall
Auditorium. Make sure to watch until the
end when credits roll over a clip of her talented and beautiful self breaking
down the tripod as the audience leaves.
