GIVE ME THAT ORANGE FLOWER

Paul Crimi starts with a blank black canvas and transforms it into a platform for three dimensional objects.  At least that's how it seems.

In this November 20th session, sunny orange flowers pop out of their bright blue vase into the room.  By the end of the hour,  you'll be tempted to reach out and grab the stems.

Paul brought three completed paintings that were started on earlier shows then finished in his Rockland,  E.T.Wright Building studio:  a painting of the Florida Keys, one of a forest, and another of a fall scene on the North River in Hanover, Massachusetts by Myettes store on Broadway.

About the forest painting, Paul says, “it's very intriguing and you want to walk through the path.  I like the entrance of it.  The way you feel.  You feel like you're present in this particular painting.”

As for the fall scene, “I put a ton of time into this.  Probably 3 weeks off and on working on it.  I think it came out quite nice. It has a real beautiful quietness, and I love the way the water goes.”

Fun fact.  Paul painted canvasses red for 20 years because the museum school he attended taught that technique.  Then one day he didn't like it anymore, and started painting canvasses black.

So we asked Paul just how does he get from blank canvas to finished picture?  'Well,” he says, “I always say a prayer before I start painting something like this because I figure he's in charge.”  CLICK HERE to watch the video.

PEMBROKE GIRLS DANCE IN NUTCRACKER BALLET

We are so proud of Pembroke's own 16-yr-old Candace Mitchell of The Children's Dance Ensemble of Hanover.  She auditioned and landed a role as the Arabian Dance soloist in The Nutcracker Ballet being presented at 2pm both on Saturday,  December 15th, and Sunday the 16th at Weymouth High School, One Wildcat Way, Weymouth.

Yay Candace!

And let's not forget other Pembroke girls from The Dance Workshop of Hanover.  9yr-old Jenna Eisenmann is a soldier, and 8-year-olds Sydney Killham and Tracy LaCara are the most precious scampering mice you've ever seen. Good job, girls!

The older Killham dancer, 11-year Emma,  looks simply adorable in her Party Boy costume of short jacket and knickers in Act One. We in Pembroke are so proud of you Emma.

So charge up your holiday spirit, mark your calendars, and bring $15/adult and $10/child to this season's handiest and best local performance of The Nutcracker Ballet.  You can call 781-829-0390 for tickets or go to www.danceworkshopofhanover.com.

FINANCIAL ADVISOR RODNEY KORNEGAY VISITS CONNIE MICHAELS

This month's “Color Your World” guest is financial adviser Rodney Kornegay who grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts where he played high school basketball and eventually was recruited by U Mass Lowell.

After a year he transferred to The College of St. Joseph in Rutland, Vermont, earning bachelor degrees in both management and finance, working various jobs, and playing basketball the whole time.

“You still have to apply.” he tells Connie, “Even though you do get some scholarship offers you still have to apply.  You still have to do your SATs, and you still need to pass your SATs.”

Over 14 years of retail store management under his belt made Rodney comfortable with people and better able to transition into financial management.

But basketball is still important to 6'7” Rodney.  “I usually try to play it at least 2 to 3 times a week when I have time.  The older guys and a lot of people that I went to high school with, we still play at the Brockton Y.”

CLICKHERE for Mr. Kornegay's November visit with Connie Michaels in Pembroke Community Media Center's studio.

WHO RUBBED A PIE IN HIS MOM'S FACE?

John Henry O'Keefe Presents "PIE NIGHT WITH THE SCOUTS" of Pembroke's Pack 105.

This is the second scouting video John has filmed and edited with Pembroke Community Media Center, and his best show yet.  So funny.  You will be laughing in the first minute.  Guaranteed.

At 7 pm Friday, November 16th the boys, leaders and parents of Pembroke's Cub Scout Pack 105 convened at St. Thecla’s Church for a meeting that began with the standard Pledge of Allegiance to our national flag, and ended with an activity that was everything but "usual."

Armed with whipped cream-laden paper plates and 16 ounce cups filled with green goo, the boys one-by-one took turns pushing and rubbing "pies" in the adults' faces.  The cups of goo were poured into grownups' hair and rubbed into previously clean foreheads.  Yikes!

The amount of messiness was matched by the amount of glee showing in the mischievous little scouts' faces. Good thing the wall and floor were covered with plastic tarp for this activity better suited to outside. The coated floor became more and more slippery with each glob of cream and glop of green goo that spilled and got spread by the active feet of scores of laughing, howling boys.

Some adult "victims" wore plastic coats and goggles, while others were totally unprotected.  What a messy, smelly ride home those people must have had.

For all his hard work making this video, John Henry received community service credit hours towards Pembroke High School's 40 hour graduation requirement.

This is the kind of show your children will want to watch multiple times, so get used to the upbeat and fast-moving silent picture movie music.

WHAT? YOU MISSED CHURCH TODAY?

Never fear. The First Congregational Church service is here.

Filmed Sunday, November 18th, this presentation shows parishioners welcomed to the fold in a "Rite of New Member Reception" ceremony starting 10 minutes into the video. Promises, handshakes, and bouquets of red roses were shared.

"Today we rejoice in your pilgrimage of faith," Pastor Giragosian says, "which has brought you to this time and to this place. So we do give thanks for community."

The entire congregation offers in unison, "We promise you our friendship and prayers."

Now the new members have lots of new friends.

One woman expressed afterwards that the roses were so beautiful; she planned to keep them a long time as dried flowers.

The First Congregational Church is in Pembroke Center.  Sunday Services start at 10am, but you can watch the videos presented by Pembroke Community Media Center anytime on www.yourpcmc.com, or with links from the church's website www.firstchurchinpembroke.org.  It doesn't get much handier than that.

Pembroke Titans - Girls Field Hockey a Season In Review

What do you get when you mix Deanna Hatch and a camera?  Coverage of ALL the field hockey games!  But you already knew that, right?

Yes. Go to www.yourpcmc.com to see an athletic bonanza of girls' matches dating from September 4th until the last September 25th  game against the Brockton Boxers.

At the recent Awards Dinner, Coach Wm Flynn proudly announced that “We're the only sport that has had all of our games covered.”  He went on to thank Deanna Hatch,  Dr.Jones, and Pembroke Community Media Center “for all they have done.”

Each video starts with energetic welcome-to-the-show music by Kevin MacLeod.

Who made the goal and who assisted are labeled with graphics for the Titans and often for opposing teams also.  Similar graphics describe relevant information in much the same way that sportscasters narrate professional games.

“I ask the coaches their players' names, and get all the information just as a paid reporter would,” Deanna says.  “Coaches from other teams want copies of what I film too.”

Through Pembroke Community Media Center's Partnering Program, Brockton and Stoughton Public Access television channels also are airing these shows to thousands of comcast and Verizon cable subscribers.

You too can get DVDs of these games and events from Deanna or from Pembroke Community Media Center with no waiting.   They're already burned, and ready to go, and free with a fully tax-deductible donation of $20 or more.

HOW DID WE PEMBROKE FOOTBALL FANS GET SO LUCKY?

Pembroke, November 23, 2012 ~ WE HAVE A WINNING VARSITY TEAM, AND WE HAVE D.J. AND JOHN MATTINSON FILMING

While Pembroke was pounding Silver Lake in what ended as 45-34 Varsity Football Thanksgiving Day victory, DJ Mattinson and his Dad, Mr. John Mattinson, AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE were filming and later editing and presenting the entire event. Both men volunteer for Pembroke Community Media Center, the new volunteer-run, web-based entity that has a full battery of shows formerly available on TV channels 13, 14, and 15.

The morale-building support of media coverage by Pembroke Community Media Center drives players to their peak performance levels.  Knowing that every game is filmed and open for extended viewing 24/7 gives a boost that can't be topped.  Thank you Mattinson family.  Without your dedication, none of the games would be publicly available in their entirety, or at all.

Players, parents, fans, and all involved are credited with this 2012 Titans Varsity Football winning season. Coach Bob Bancroft has led the Titans to a league championship and Division 3 playoff berth.

And what an exciting game this was!

At the 3-minute mark, Pembroke's #15, Cory Brandon, threw an unbelievable pass from his own 36 Yard line to #21, Adam Litchfield scoring the first touchdown.  That golden moment made it impossible for the Lakers to turn the Titans back in this, the second consecutive Thanksgiving game that the two teams have met with Titans garnering a win.

Brandon went on to throw two additional touchdown passes and run for two more scores.

CLICK HERE to watch the game.

To date this season, the Titans have lost to only 3 Patriot League Fisher Division teams, Duxbury, Oliver Ames, and Stoughton, giving them a 7-3 overall record going into the November 27th Tuesday night Division 3 Super Bowl playoff competition.

Pembroke will play Sharon which has an 8-3 record.  Pembroke Community Media Center will be there again to catch the action.

YES, WE HAVE A VIDEO OF THAT!

Ever wonder how we decide what to film and what to edit?  Well, it's not us deciding.  It's YOU!

Edited videos of what YOU want to see.

It all starts when a volunteer calls or e-mails with his/her idea.  From there we find someone willing to do the filming, and another person who wants to edit.

It's like a match-making service for video production.

Sometimes more than one volunteer edits a piece, as is the case with The First Church in Pembroke Sunday Service. For that show, church member Heather Lapham edits with two friends, one of whom is Morman and the other Lutheran.

Scouting for Food at the Pembroke Food Pantry” was shot by 14-yr-old John O'Keefe who did all the filming and editing himself with some of our help.

Parent Deanna Hatch enjoys filming only, and has captured every Girls' Field Hockey game played this 2012 season.  Other volunteers edited for her.

Kurt Binder, owner of the business boat-hut.com, used our Final Cut Pro software and computer to create a program from footage shot by another volunteer, Janet, back in September.

Our own DJ Mattinson is a wiz at grabbing Titans football game action for both home AND away games.

After a video is up and running on our web site, www.yourpcmc.com, a promotional article is written and distributed letting everyone in Pembroke know that your show is ready to watch.   Good job.

There are so many ways to make it happen.  You can borrow a volunteer, borrow a volunteer and a camera, or borrow just the camera.  No kidding…

Everybody loves watching themselves, so contact us today.

Pembroke Titans Girls' Field Hockey Awards Dinner

“The field hockey season is one of the fastest, and comes to an end too soon,” declared Coach William Flynn at the Awards Dinner held in the Pembroke High School cafeteria the evening of November 5th.

A heartfelt round of applause followed Flynn's opening remarks. He thanked “the seniors and the hard work they've put in with bringing all the young girls along and making this a nice fall sport for everybody to have some fun and enjoy themselves.  Seniors, on that note, thank you very much for the last four years.”

Players from all three divisions, Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity, came with their parents to enjoy the potluck buffet dinner, accept awards in the form of clothing and backpacks, and socialize with friends and seniors who would be graduating in 2013.

Jen Halloran, first-time coach for this year's freshmen, was herself a senior last year.  Way to go Jen!

Coach Flynn encouraged everyone to ask more and more students to try-out for field hockey teams “We want Coach Halloran to keep her job,” he adds.

The nine senior players were involved in the sport all four years.

“Keep working. Keep working,” Flynn encourages at the evening's close. “The program has become a lot more competitive over the past 3 or 4 years.  We're almost there.  We're that close. We should contend for a tournament.  So that's got to light a fire under some of the JV girls and some of the varsity girls coming back.”

Way to go girls!  CLICK HERE to see this laudatory dinner, and CLICK HERE to see all the 2012 Varsity Girls Field Hockey games.

RICK GIRAGOSIAN'S SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY

Welcome to the November 11th Sunday Service at The First Church in Pembroke.

During what purports to be a standard children's reading session of “On the Night You were Born,” a birthday party erupts complete with cake, lit candles, and an entire congregation belting out “Happy Birthday”  to accompanying organ music.

It all begins with Gail Horsefield sweetly explaining to children gathered at her feet that “stewardship” means “taking care of,” and today it's about “taking care of one person.  Is there anybody who's a good reader and can read who this cake is for?”

A young boy reads the words “Pastor Rick” on the cake, the congregation responds with a loud guffaw, and the party portion of this service has begun.   So fun.

Pastor Rick Giragosian's spontaneous laughter and smile lights the room, as do the five candles which each symbolize ten years in his life.   Since cake eating isn't an immediate option, Gail thoughtfully distributes candy. Yummy!

The “party” is at the 11 ½ -minute mark on the video. We know this, well because we've been rewinding and watching the birthday scene again and again.

CLICK HERE to view the video.
